What a way to finish the League. We travelled to Yateley with 7 - no subs, but the sun was shining and the mood was good !!

The last time these two sides met, the Yateley Lions beat us 3-2 at home, so today we wanted revenge, having had 3 Wins on the bounce, confidence was high!!

We started brightly in the first half, and had the lions-share of possesion, but it soon became apparent that the elbows and boots of the opposition were liberally being flung around the pitch, so the boys hunkered down, gave it back when needed, and absolutely played out of their skins . How the chances we were creating didn't go in, I'll never know!! We came a cropper at the end of the first quarter, when a throw in came bouncing along, and our defence, again , were guilty of ball watching and failed to engage the marauding attack, and they snuck one in the corner of the goal. totally against the run of play !!! 1-0 down into the end of the quarter, but spirits high !!

Second quarter came, and out we came, looking for revenge ! Again, a really good showing from the ravens , with 3 or 4 breakthrough chances, none of which crossed the line. Daniel had an amazing zig zag dribble through the whole of their defence only for his final shot to go into the side netting. At our goal end , Stanley picked the ball up twice , with no shots and no threats on goal, the defence and midfield were firmly putting Yateley in their box, which led to some pretty rash challenges from them. We went into half-time, amazed that no more of our efforts had been converted.

Third quarter comes , and away we go , with the sun behind us, Toby in goal and team fully refreshed and watered . We put some amazing pressure on the Yateley team, they cant handle the mazy runs and Lex and Oliver, and find our defence has closed them down. Daniel starts being targeted by their players, and is fouled time and time again. Finally , In Anger, Daniel goes in for a 50.50 challenge and the Yateley goes flying , unable to handle the physical strength of the DJ, gets waved on by the referee who doesn't know what to do. Out of nowhere, Oliver runs with the ball from the half way line, cuts past 3 of their players , and unleashes an absolute Worldy, that curled away from the GK, , and he was at least 25 yards out! 1-1 - and still 20 minutes left! We not long after have a penalty appeal turned down, as Daniel was brought down by their GK, but Referee played on . He was only a Youth Referee, with a lot to learn. Not long after, the dirty play culminated in another free-kick for the Waters, with Lex taken down on their left hand-side . The free kick was taken, but the shot just veered left of the post........ looked like it wasn't going to be our day!! A run down by the right flank by Yateley goes dangerously near our penalty box, with options for their attackers, when Daniel come out of nowhere and sends the slid tackle of his dreams down the pitch and knocks the ball out for a corner, and the opposition player lays stunned on the floor. What a tackle ! More chances ( too many to remember) but still no dice - we go to the end of third quarter, with full belief and heads held high!

Come the fourth quarter , we all go out on the pitch , looking for the winner. Daniel goes into goal , and everyone else changes a position or two. We are absolutely dynamite in this quarter , we take the ball up and into the Yateley final third so many times and have so many chances !! At the other end, Daniel just picks the ball up once, not from a shot- we had locked them out yet again . We are fouled yet again , when Teddy is bundled over on the lefthand side again. This time Stan takes the free kick , and its rattles the Apex on the upright, and went out for a corner. Lady luck was on a break. We see the game out with more pressure on them, and to be fair, Yateley were flattered with this score-line, and with the 9v9 friendlies coming up - we hope to meet them soon!!! Full time whistle - 1-1 !!!
